The South Africa Institution for Civil Engineering (SAICE) launched its third much anticipated Infrastructure Report Card (IRC)on tuesday, the first one was launched in 2006 and last that was released in 2011. The IRC deals with all of the country's infrastructure and is put together by a team of the best civil engineers in the field. Compiling the report requires a lot of time and dedication. The 2017 IRC is graded accordingly to how that type of infrastructure is and its durability/ maintenance of arrows is explained in detail.
The occasion had guests speakers such as Malcom Pautz who was the SAICE President 2015, Sam Amod SAICE President 2006 and the current President Sundran Naicker.
During his presentation Malcom Pautz highlighted that the main aim for this report card is to assist South Africa achieve its service delivery targets and how SAICE makes report to be read, interpreted and even understood by the public and not by engineers only.
SAICE looked at this important task and gave a graded presentation for the following infrastructures water, sanitation, solid waste management, roads, airports, Health care, electricity, education just to name a few. If any of these categorized infrastructure is falling short e.g electricity that would be hard for pupils to study so the education will also be fragmented, primarily this presentation is to make sure that as South African citizens we get quality service delivery such that can be maintained.
Professor Wall described infrastructure as the nations wealth, the public's asset which is meant take people away from poverty, that is why we cannot create and deteriorate infrastructure "maintenance is crucial" - he said.
After questions and answers CEO of SAICE Manglin Pillay, then gave thanks to the attendees and the speakers for the effortlessly brilliant presentation.
