SAICE Johannesburg hosted women in high hats events at the Blue Valley Golf Estate and Country Club. The event was aimed at celebrating women making big moves in civil engineering as well as students and graduates who are in the field. During the ceremony delicious breakfast and tea was served but nothing beats the motivational talks delivered by women to women.

Ntebo Ngcobo the Head of Department (HOD) of civil Engineering at the University of Johannesburg also shared her heartfelt thought and motivation during her interview with Buhle Hlatshwayo from SAICE Johannesburg TV, and mentioned that as women we are our worst competitor, we excel and are able to see our shortcomings therefore we fail to see what we can do and are good at because we focus on the negatives and nit what we are offering. She further more explained how self discipline is and an important tool to have as women in the industry of engineering.

The Breakfast also had guests and speaker such as Marelize Visser the TMV consulting owner and structural engineer, who completed her studies in engineering management at Rand Afrikaans University; she holds her profession registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and a member of the South African Institute of Civil Engineering.  Reminded us of staying current as a very important thing for engineers and doing things outside your profession so that when the world advances you’re also able to understand it.
